Creature Editor Next Month
This just in a few hours ago, the Spore creature editor will be available to Spore fans in late June! Patrick Beuchner, the marketing director at Maxis, stated this about the editor: A trial version of the Spore Creature creator will be available for free through a variety of sources including as a download from Spore.com and in The SimCity Box. There will also be a version of the Creature Creator available at retail. The free Creature Creator has about 25-percent of the creature making parts from Spore. The retail version will have 100-percent. It's up to the players to choose which version they want, but they'll all be available at approximately the same timeThe article at IGN.com has some insides on what the editor will consist of, including: A complete creature editor (only creatures at this point, folks), a test ground with several different backdrops, and the creator can take in-game shots and movies of their creature in the testing grounds. Your creatures will be able to enter the official Sporepedia at Spore.com. The functions in the retail version of the editor will be identical to that of the editor in the game, and your creatures will be able to be played in the game when it ships September 7 in North America.

Yay! I can't wait! I wouldn't normally pay for a demo but it's Spore so I'll make an exception
faithlovexxx - April 16th, 2008 - 16:11
Don't mean to be a butt... But June is not next month.
It's only the 16th of April...
- April 16th, 2008 - 18:15
NICE! I'll get it if I can't get the Sim City Collection game Box.
King t - April 16th, 2008 - 18:30
man, i am so hot right now... jk , I am defently buying the retail, it one more of EA's money sucking tactics but this is acceptable : D
Cody - April 16th, 2008 - 22:14
I don't see why so many people on ign and elsewhere are complaining so much about paying for a full edition of the creature editor. A lot of people are only going to buy the game to create creatures, so giving it away free means no money for EA from those consumers.
Besides, 10 to 20 bucks for one of the most powerful and user-friendly creation programs ever? Sign me up.
- April 17th, 2008 - 07:26
I have to agree. They obviously realise what a powerful and fun tool it is and will charge for it accordingly. Hopefuly it will be quite cheap! Yes it's 2 months away, got me excited for a second there reading the title

Trial version on May is good news! expect full version coming to june? wasnt a good idea to release that game earlier than 7{europe 5}september?
- April 17th, 2008 - 08:57
oops! maybe im little wrong about release of creature editor versions?
SporeFinatic - April 17th, 2008 - 13:59
I think I'll get the download. I dont want to ruin all the unlockable parts. Ill wait for the 100% of the parts, for when I unlock them in the game. Total Sweetntess! I wonder if you can save the demo creatures and then load them when you get the actual game...giggity giggity!
Roland - April 17th, 2008 - 18:23
Mayhap we'll have user accounts, as you can block users, we might be able to start our account now so we can keep our protocreatures.
hammyscotland - April 18th, 2008 - 10:33
I'm not going to buy the demo if it is over £10. I don't think it would be worth it. I'll just get the free version and wait until september 5th.
Shadowfax - April 18th, 2008 - 11:42
I remember Will said that you can "export" creatures to a Spore card file, and share with friends and whatnot. But he was talking about the full version... if this free editor has it too, then we can "export" any creation to a file, then just "import" it into the full Spore when it arrives!
Shadowfax - April 18th, 2008 - 11:44
Of course, it all depends on whether they included that Export feature with the free creature-editor... I hope they do, it'll make a lot of gamers happy...
- April 19th, 2008 - 18:15
So im assuming the next month thing is wrong!? is the trail coming in may or june!?
Some one answer PLEASE
Rawr! - April 20th, 2008 - 13:51
Well it says in the article 'around the same time in June'
So June
- April 21st, 2008 - 14:45
OHHH MAN!! Will, your breaking my balls man. We've been waiting forever! And the whole "buy the full editor" is SUCH a bad idea. Like the hackers arn't going to hack it the day it comes out, besides i thought a point of the game was to explore, kinda, for new parts, so wtf?
dude! - April 21st, 2008 - 16:31
pay for a friggin demo?!
f*k they're gonna make us pay for a whole lotta more things, i bet
Roland - April 21st, 2008 - 18:01
You have to pay for the full demo because it has everything, and all the stay at home soccer mums and people that just want to make creatures to upload will be getting a free game. Think about it. It won't get hacked because it'll come with a Spore user account so people know whos made what. Just wait for the full game, I've been waiting like 6 years now. Whats a few more months?
Confused - April 22nd, 2008 - 17:39
well i suppose that makes sense, but that doesn't always stop hackers.
I swear if EA trys to milk more money outta spore i'll puke....
MutantBadger - April 23rd, 2008 - 16:19
I think I may just get the 25% version then if I like alot then Ill get 100% version :D

Maxis History
The company we have all grown to love was founded in 1987 by designers Will Wright and Jeff Braun to launch their game, Simcity. The game didn't show much interest among the community because of it's lack of "winning and losing" concept; which is what, then, defined a video game. After the amazing success of the game, the young company went on to create several other games such as RoboSport and the ever popular 3D pinball game for the Windows Operating System. With Simcity's success Maxis attempted other various 'Sim' games such as: SimAnt, SimFarm, SimEarth (a possible inspiration for Spore) and SimLife. Maxis then looked to other game genres creating The Crystal Skull and SimCopter, both flops, then leading to a decline in what Maxis has to offer. Electronic Arts acquired the company in 1997, and it seems to be ridding of the name. With the release of the Sims 2: Pets, the Maxis logo was omitted entirely from the game. But we see it's return at the bottom of the Official Spore Website. The teaser trailer for Spore even features a "Brought to you by the makers of The Sims 2.." So perhaps EA wants to keep the popular name. In 2000, Maxis released The Sims, despite the ridicules and almost certainty of failure by the EA officials. The game went on to become the best selling PC game of all time. And with the release of the extremely popular The Sims 2 in 2004, and Spore to be seen released September of 2008, the company has a very bright future.
