I got spore a while ago, my thoughts :D

It’s really strange no one has written in this blog function after the spore release… anyway, since no one did, I will :D

Ok, first of all, spore is amazing. I loved the cell phase, and that it isn’t very easy, even at normal difficulty (I died quite some times).

The creature phase is also great, I love the way you earn parts by the way you play the game. I didn’t earn a single social part, while I had unlocked all the offensive ones :P Yes, I played the whole game very aggressively. I just felt it was the easiest way around :P Anyway, the civilization phase was ok, I didn’t expect much, but it certainly met my expectations, and I can say, not just met them, but was even better. The space phase-woah, I didn’t think it was so complex! I didn’t think it’d take you so long to find the weapons and stuff… it’s amazing, I must say it’s the phase that I had the most hype for and lived up to most of it ;)

I was disappointed at 1 thing though. Will Wright (or somebody from Maxis, I’m not sure) said that they would let you stay in a stage for as long as you want. Well, that’s not true. My goal in the cell phase was to become amazingly huge, like the creatures in the background. But when you get the chance to go to land, you suddenly stop earning DNA points, which is like forcing you to go to the creature phase, since there’s nothing else to do.

Same goes for creature phase. After you’re able to go to tribal, all your species in the nest suddenly disappear, leaving you alone, without being able to evolve anymore but 1 time, when you’re about to go to tribal. The tribal was an ok phase, but I feel like there should be more enemy tribes. When you kill them, you’re alone, with all the wild animals. I’d love it if new tribes popped up now and then, even after you meet the requirements to go to civ. Civ had enough enemy cities to have fun with, I had no problem with that phase :D

Well, I guess that’s it, thanks for reading :)

Oh, and to those disgusted by the way I got the game, I’ve got to tell them 1 thing, which happens to be a quote:

It’s better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.

  1. An excellent review! I’m really glad that it measures up! It’s disappointing that you can’t really stay in a phase forever, but who was really going to stay in it that much longer. I CAN’T WAIT MUCH LONGER!

  2. I was waiting for someone to blog about the game for once. XD I hope I’ll have time to once I get my copy. Thanks for the well-written review. I’m hearing lots of people complaining that Space is either too hard or too uneventful, but it seems like you’re enjoying it. You also said that you played very offensively, so I’m curious to know a little more about how Space was like for you; if you were attacked a lot, and if so, how you dealt with it. I’m looking forward to that stage the most myself, so I hope I won’t be disappointed.

It’s unfortunate to hear that you *can’t* stay in a stage for as long as you want, contrary to popular belief. That’s a huge bummer to me… and if not a little bit of false advertising on Maxis/EA’s part. Still, sounds like the game is as awesome as I imagined it to be. Can’t wait to get it!

And I for one am not disgusted that you have the game. Just a leeeeetle bit jealous, that’s all. ;) I CAN’T WAIT MUCH LONGER EITHER. D:

  3. Well, I played the whole game completely aggressively, but I stopped at the space :P When you make enemies, they attack you often. Some say they attack you every 5 seconds, which is false (except if you have 10 enemies, I guess :P), but you get attacked quite often. Defending your colonies isn’t hard at all. Attacking other colonies, in the other hand, might get you owned.

  4. Thanks for the review! Like Zaef, I was wondering when somebody was gonna blog about owning it :P I know I sure plan on doing it once I get my hands on the game. Only a couple days now :D
